Two things I learned repainting this dresser:

1. Ask the paint guy at Home Depot to add primer to the paint.
2. Drawer pulls are not standardized. I wanted to replace the original pulls, but couldn’t find any that fit appropriately.

I’ve finally printed a few of my many, many pictures to display in our home.

I’m personally not a big fan of the traditional family picture galleries, with crooked, mis-matched frames. I also didn’t want to spend a fortune on 12 matching frames. Instead I had 8×8 prints made, cut a sheet of foam board, and mounted the photos with a spray adhesive. Because they are so lightweight, I was able to hang the mounted pictures with poster putty rather than nails.

It’s nice to actually have a few family photos displayed!

Here’s another wall covering idea for you. Instead of glueing wallpaper to your walls, make art out of it by haning wallpaper on dowels. Here’s a tutorial.

I bought this wallpaper in the clearance section at Wallpaper Warehouse. I thought the middle section needed a little oomph, so I stenciled the vine on the side.

Some tips:

Use thick dowels.
Cut dowels longer than the width of the wallpaper, then tie the cord to the ends of the dowels. Stapling the cord to the dowel was a pain.

So I’ve recently picked up a new hobby. Homemaking. I’ve been spending much of my free time on cheap, do-it-yourself, home-decorating projects. I’ve been trying to be as creative as possible and spend the least amount of money possible. What can I say, I get a rush from a good deal.

So here was my first project. We recently purchased a new sectional (because our couch and love seat wouldn’t fit in our tiny new living room) which inspired me to start decorating. One of the hardest things to work around is the fact that we aren’t allowed to paint. So I decided to make some art to cover our bare walls. It was a fun and easy project.

I followed this tutorial. I bought the large canvas frame from the craft store, and the small frames and fabric from Ikea. In all I spent about $25. A good deal for a much needed improvement.

Arizona Trip

Last weekend we took a trip to Arizona to welcome Miles’ brother home from his mission where he served two years in the Philippines. While in Arizona, I took a few family pictures.

Lately I’ve been letting Link walk around the community and explore his surroundings. He loves it, and I love the fact that by the end he is so exhausted he needs me to carry him home. Lincoln and I went on one of our expeditions yesterday afternoon. To keep myself entertained, I took my camera along. This allowed me to do a little exploration myself. Here are a few things we saw along the way. I tried to keep some sort of theme in mind, but by the end, my theme was “cool stuff that I saw.”

Half Marathon

Oh, did I mention I ran a half marathon on last Monday, Memorial Day?! Yeah, you can go ahead and say it, I’m amazing! hehehe.

Because Miles and I ran the race together, neither of us were able to take pictures. A few good friends/spectators got some shots of us though. As soon as I can round up some pictures I’ll post them here. So stay tuned to see pictures of a couple of very sweaty, tired, and feeling-very-accomplished Michelle and Miles!

Seal Beach 10K

This past Saturday I ran my first 10K race ever! We raced with 5,000 other people in the Seal Beach 5K/10K. It was such a blast! I was on a high all day! I felt like I could conquer the world. I ran with my friend Hope, who’s been training with me from the beginning, and my husband who just picked up running again this past month. He ran cross-country in high school and hadn’t run 6 miles since. And he kept up with me the whole time! Grrrrr. Guys bug!

Anyway, we ran it in under 1 hour, which was our goal. I think I could have pushed a little bit more. I still had some in me at the end. My official time was 58:40. Miles’ time was 58:41. I beat him! Ha! Actually, we held hands across the finish line. How sweet! Hope came in less than a minute after us. So pretty much what I’m saying is, we’re amazing! Never in a million years did I think I would run a 10K, let alone train for a half marathon and possibly a full marathon. *shudder*

We are still on track for running the Half Marathon in Laguna Hills on Memorial Day, May 25th. We’re doing 8 miles again on Saturday. Yay for us!
