Slip up

I cussed today and feel really bad about it. I was venting my frustrations to a friend. I was telling her how upset I was after having been restricted from entering or exiting my apartment between the hours of 8am and 3pm for four days straight. I’m sorry but that just doesn’t work for a busy stay-at-home pregnant mom with a very sick, tired, and cranky baby! The last memorable time I used such vulgar language I think I was 7 years old. I told my mom, “I don’t want to do the d@&# dishes!” So I’m sure you now know just how upset I was today when I let such language slip!

CPR and the Coke Machine

I sat in a CPR class for 7 hours today. I had to become certified for work. I forgot how exhausting it is to just sit and listen to someone lecture. I think since having Link my attention span has gotten shorter. I was so ansy by the end, I could have screamed! I kept thinking I should have packed more snacks. And a coloring book would have been nice too.

Oh and tonight we went to Pei Wei for dinner. Have you seen their fountain drink dispenser? Seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. I felt like I was in “Back to the Future.” I think they called it the Coca Cola Freestyle. Anyway, it’s this pod thing that has a touch screen where you select your flavor of soda. Sounds kinda simple, but here’s the thing, there are more than 100 combinations to try. Tonight I had peach-Sprite, vanilla-Diet Coke, and my favorite was orange-caffine-free-Diet Coke.

Link and I went to California Adventure with Hope and her kids this morning. We all piled in my car because her’s wouldn’t start. On the drive there, we were the victims of a road rage scene. A driver of a VW bug raced around us, after he failed to merge correctly, and gave us the finger! Not two seconds after he flashed his finger, he got a flat tire! I couldn’t believe it. I really wanted to laugh and say “that’s what you get sucker!” But my good Christian friend reminded me it’s not good to gloat. And of course, she was right (:

Streaker

While I was in the kitchen preparing dinner this afternoon, I heard Link rustling around in the next room. I looked just as Link came around the corner, naked. He had taken his diaper off all by himself! It cracked me up. I tried really hard to supress my reaction, however. I didnt want to reinforce this behavior I then asked him where his diaper was. He went into the family room and fetched it. Luckily it was only slightly wet.

Fresh Kicks

Yo peeps, check out my fresh kicks!

Translation: Hey everyone, look at my new shoes!

Cool, hip, or fly are a few adjectives I would never use to describe myself.

Let me give you an funny example that proves just how uncool I am. While hanging out with a couple who we thought were pretty “with it,” he made a comment about my new “kicks.” Huh? I just looked at him quizzically. I had no clue what he was talking about. He tipped me off by pointing to my new shoes. Oh I get it!

Later I couldn’t help but laugh to myself when I passed a sign in front Journey’s shoe store that read “Fresh Kicks.”

Why did I buy these new kicks you might ask? Well, it was in anticipation of running a half marathon the end of May on Memorial Day. I, along with a handful of other moms, are starting to train for it. I’m pretty excited about the whole thing. Those of you who know me know I’ve never been the athletic type. You’re right, I’m not. But I’m really feeling up to the challenge. And by golly, if I can make it through labor and give birth, I can do anything!

So, all of you advanced runners, you got any advice for an amateur?

We’ve got trouble

Let the baby proofing begin. Now that Link is somewhat mobile, he’s finding ways to get in trouble. Yesterday I was working on the computer and when I turned around Link had rolled his way over to the window. He’s definitely finding ways to keep himself occupied.

Little Squirt

Link’s new favorite toy just so happens to be this squirt gun. I don’t know what it is, but it just seems to be easy for him to hold and manipulate. He loves it. Momma doesn’t like it so much. Seeing him hold it is humorous and unsettling at the same time. I don’t even know where the thing came from. I just pulled it out of the diaper bag with a handful of other toys (we happened to be at church at the time, it was funny and a little embarrassing). Somehow in the myriad of all his other cute and cuddle baby-friendly toys, this toy somehow finds it’s way into his little hands.

It reminds me of a story my boss told me. She had been trying to raise her boys in a “gender neutral environment,” no trucks, cars, trains, GI joes, and no guns. One day her toddler was sitting in his high chair eating an apple when he picked up one slice and, holding like a gun, said “bang, bang!” I guess boys will be boys.
